Born and raised in Southern California, Buffy uses intriguing color choices and delicate technique, creating captivating pieces that draw you in. Pouring liquid watercolors over hand drawn sketches allows her personal style to develop as she finds inspiration in the deserts, mountains, and coastline of the Southwest. Striving to capture the textures, grit and heart of nature, she often uses additives in her paintings such as salt, sediment, soapstone, chalks, inks, and iridescent pigments. She uses intuitive composition to best highlight the mood and energy of her subject. Mostly self-taught with two years attending watercolor workshops taught by Helen Schafer Garcia. Buffy was thrilled to be able to attend demonstrations by Joseph Zbukvic, Soon Warren, and Craig Anderson. Her early studies focused on the works of Edgar A. Whitney, Eliot O’Hara, and Tony Couch. From student to teacher, Buffy is now an instructor teaching her Watercolor Pour method at The Gallery in Fallbrook, CA.
